Google Panda Is Now Part Of Google’s Core Ranking Signals
Say goodbye to the typical Google Panda updates. Panda is now baked in as one of Google's core ranking algorithm.
Google Panda, one of Google’s most significant spam-fighting algorithms, launched in February 2011, is officially part of Google’s core ranking algorithm. It is unclear exactly when this happened; we at Search Engine Land are trying to find out.
Jennifer Slegg posted a Panda guide that was vetted by Google’s PR team, and part of that included a statement that said Panda is now part of Google’s core ranking algorithm. Here is that statement:
Search Update Impact On SEO & Content Strategies
Columnist Jim Yu explores how Google's numerous algorithm updates over the years have shaped search engine optimization strategies. Can this information provide a clue for what to expect in the future?
Since Google was first launched in 1998, the company has been continually refining its search algorithm to better match users with online content.
Over the years, many algorithm updates have targeted spammy and low-quality content in an effort to surface this content less frequently in search results. Other algorithm updates have been aimed at improving Google’s “understanding” of search queries and page content to better align search results with user intent.
The bottom line is that focusing on quality content and the user experience really is the best way to ensure your search engine optimization (SEO) and content marketing campaigns are update proactive rather than update reactive.

Case Study: How We Removed a Massive Manual Google Penalty in 5 Steps
When I joined the PSD2HTML team in November 2014, the site
had been suffering from a manual penalty related to spammy backlinks for
over a year. They'd tried everything to promote a recovery, but nothing
worked.
They were ready to admit defeat.
The penalty resulted in the loss of over 80% of their organic traffic.
The story of how this happened is very interesting. PSD2HTML was one of the first companies to market PSD to HTML conversions in 2005. At the peak of their success, they transitioned to an SEO company. In 2013, our relationship with a well-known agency resulted in a manual spam penalty.

How to Make Your URLs SEO Friendly
The subject is up for much discussion: SEO friendly URLs. Should or shouldn’t I include the category? Should the URL be as short as possible or is there room for extras? Should it be stuffed with keywords or not?
In this post, I’ll explain our take at Yoast on SEO friendly URLs and try to elaborate a bit on why we think that is the best option for that link. First, let me tell you that an SEO friendly URL differs per type of website. In this article, I’ll discuss a few to show the differences. There are a few ground rules, but I strongly encourage you to keep the visitor in mind when setting up your URL structure.
